by Jamie Ruf
Without a doubt it is no fun when you pop on your car’s air conditioner only to not feel cold air. Especially if is one of those days where putting down the windows just won’t cut it and help cool it off. But if it happens to you, know that you are not alone. It is a problem that happens to many people each year, with people often finding out about it when they go to use it for the first time that season.
There are a few different reasons why your air conditioner may not be blowing cold air. Determining which of these reasons is responsible for your unit not blowing cold air may not be the easiest of tasks if you are not familiar with working with car air conditioners. Here are a few of the reasons why a car air conditioner may not be blowing cold air:
- Maybe it is but it is really hot outside so it just doesn’t seem as cold as you would like it. Sometimes people think it’s not blowing cold air when it really is, it is just that it is hot outside.
- There may be a component that is not working correctly. There are five main components, including the compressor, condenser, evaporator, thermal expansion valve, and drier, and if one of them needs to be replaced it can make the whole unit not work right.
- There may be a leak in your refrigerant or you need to re-charge, or re-gas, your refrigerant. This is a common reason for air conditioning units to not be blowing as cold of air as you would like.
- It is possible that there is dirt or moisture that has built up in your car’s air conditioning unit. This can be cleaned out in order to help resolve the problem.
